Kate trained in design, jewellery, enamelling and casting at Sir John Cass School of Art, London, setting up her first workshop in Leeds in 1980.
In 1983 her workshop moved to The Pearoom Centre for Contemporary Crafts, Heckington. She moved again in 1987 to a purpose-built studio in Boston, Lincolnshire.
Kate's work has been exhibited both in the UKand abroad, venues include: The Victoria and Albert Museum, the Design Council, Air Gallery and Facets in London. The Collection, Usher Gallery, Sam Scorer and Greenstone Gallery Lincoln. The Scottish Gallery, Design Council, Glasgow, Royal Exchange, Manchester, Angel Row Gallery, Nottingham, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Leicestershire Museum and Art Gallery, Copernican Connection, Yorkshire, Posterngate Gallery, Hull, the Pearoom, Heckington, the Hub Sleaford and the Willoughby Memorial Gallery, Corby Glen. Katherine had one-woman shows at Lady Lodge Art Centre in Peterborough and Blackfriars Art Centre in Boston. She took part in an exchange, German touring exhibition, organised by the Usher Gallery, Lincoln to Museum der Stadt Worms im Andreassift, Heimat Museum Idar-Oberstein and Landes Museum, Koblenz. Also other group exhibitions to Esbjerg, Denmark and Kuma Kunsti Museum, Tallin, Estonia. She has sold work through Chelsea Crafts Fair, Cobra and Bellamy, Liberty and Electrum Gallery in London. Also, the Campus shops in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Oxford. She has produced pieces for television, dance and advertising awards. In 1993 a silver bangle with ebony inlay became part of the permanent applied art collection at Tallinn Applied Art Museum, Tarberkunsti Museum, Tallinn, Estonia.
Kate taught, part-time, from 1983 to 2016 for the University of Nottingham and WEA. She has acted as a student mentor at Lincoln College of art. She has also been a consultant for Lincolnshire and Humberside Arts.
In 1988 Kate brought together a group of contemporary makers to create Lincolnshire & Humberside Contemporary Crafts, later changing to its current name, Contemporary Crafts Network.
