Kate is an alumna of Sir John Cass College, The Faber Academy and UEA. She is a member of the Guild of Enamellers. The Crime Writers Association and The Society of Authors.
Kate produced work as a designer maker from 1980 to 2016. She taught part-time from 1983 to 2016.
She was involved in animal welfare from 1997 to 2012, beginning as a volunteer for RSPCA Lincs-East, and later employed on a part-time consultancy basis. At the beginning of 2002, Kate founded Lincs-Ark animal welfare, a charity to support older animals.
